Task 3 : Kerupuk Pasir
Hello guys! This is my third post in my blog. In this time, I will tell you about the special snack from my region, Kendal. This snack is from Kaliwungu, one of the sub-district in Kendal. The people called it “Kerupuk Pasir”.
Kerupuk Pasir, or better known as Kerupuk Useg, is a popular snack in this city. The people call it as Kerupuk Pasir because it is fried by using a sand, not an oil. And “Useg” (Java) has the meaning that the frying process is rubbed in the sand.
The ingredients to make this snack are tapioca flour, salt, shrimp paste, flavor, coriander, garlic, and food coloring. Then, all the ingredients are mixed and milled and then it is shaped like a noodle. After then, it is boiled around 15 minutes and then it is dried under the sun. The drying process is about 5-6 hours. After dry, it is dipped in garlic marinade and then it has to dried under the sun again until actually dry.
The chips that have been passing through all these process already to be fried. The sand that is used to fry is the mountain sand or the river sand. The sand must be sifted first in order to make a refined sand. So when it fried, the sand is not stick in this chips because if it happens, it caused the taste of the chips not too tasty. Because it is fried by using the sand, this snack is cholesterol free, and more healthy.
